A fabulous disbound book illustrated by Henry Mayer and with verses by T W H Crosland which by today’s standards contains some rather dubious national stereotypes! The illustrations are charming and all have Mayer’s eponymous signature - Hy M. Henry "Hy" Mayer was a magazine illustrator in Munich, Paris and London. In 1886 he emigrated to the United States where he illustrated a number of children's books. He was a political cartoonist for The New York Times from 1904, and then in 1914, he was the chief cartoonist of Puck. With 20 illustrations measuring 7.5 x 12 .5 cm
